LA Rams, Kansas City Chiefs Now Super Bowl Betting Favorites After Top Seeds Fall

Patrick Mahomes Matthew Stafford

The top two seeds in the 2021-22 NFL Playoffs were knocked off during the divisional round, making way for the Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs to host the NFC and AFC Championship Games next Sunday.

LA will be hosting the San Francisco 49ers who would seem to be a team of destiny if not for the Disney-like sparkle that’s accenting the efforts of all three other winners from last weekend.

Updated futures odds for betting on Super Bowl 56 have been revealed by Bovada, and the home teams are featured in the top two positions.

Super Bowl 56 Betting Futures

  • Kansas City Chiefs +125
  • Los Angeles Rams +200
  • San Francisco 49ers +425
  • Cincinnati Bengals +850

Although game lines for the Super Bowl cannot be created until the completion of the Conference Championships, the following Super Bowl prop bet attempts to attract some early action by allowing wagers to be placed on if a representative franchise from the AFC or the NFC will hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Conference That Wins Super Bowl LVI

  • AFC -120
  • NFC -110

The AFC has a slight edge, and these NFL odds are adopting a generous assumption that the Chiefs will beat the Bengals because judging by the futures moneylines above, Cincinnati would be underdogs to either LA or San Francisco.

That same logic applies to the AFC Championship betting line, as the Bengals are 7 point dogs despite toppling the top-seeded Tennessee Titans last Saturday.

AFC Championship Odds

Cincinnati Bengals (4) @ Kansas City Chiefs (2)

  • Point Spread: Bengals +7.0, Chiefs -7.0
  • Moneyline: Bengals +265. Chiefs -330
  • Over/Under: 54.0

After KC’s win yesterday over the Buffalo Bills, the NFL was put on notice that it takes 60 full minutes of football to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs as they were able to mount a comeback even though they were receiving a kickoff with 13 seconds remaining on the clock.

NFL betting sites do not believe that the Bengals have what it takes to hang with the Chiefs for a full game, however, if Cincinnati’s time is now, then it is also time to invest in their profitable +265 moneyline odds.

The 49ers vs Rams odds are much tighter, and favor the home team to win the NFC by a margin of just over a field goal.

NFC Championship Odds

San Francisco 49ers (6) @ Los Angeles Rams (4)

  • Point Spread: 49ers +3.5, Rams -3.5
  • Moneyline: 49ers +150, Rams -175
  • Over/Under: 46.5

When betting on NFL teams to advance to the Super Bowl, it pays to look back upon the regular season’s results and research prior head-to-head matchups and common opponents.

San Francisco swept the season series over the LA Rams, and have also bested Los Angeles the last 6 times they’ve played each other.

LA’s home field advantage is minimized due to traveling hoards of 49ers fans who have been representing well all year, producing a sea of red that often drowns out regional fans during the game.

That could be the case once again this weekend as Rams fans aren’t that loyal or hardcore, and will be tempted to redeem the high dollar value that “49ers Nation” are willing to pay to attend the NFC Championship Game.

It happened during Week 18 when San Francisco beat the Rams in LA, and the degree to which it repeats on Sunday will factor into the final results.
